Chotty ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how your personal information is collected, used, and disclosed when you use the Chotty iOS keyboard application (the "App").

By accessing or using our App, you signify that you have read, understood, and agree to our collection, storage, use, and disclosure of your personal information as described in this Privacy Policy.

Definitions and Key Terms

For clarity, the following terms are used throughout this Privacy Policy:

  • App/Application: refers to Chotty, the iOS keyboard application.
  • Company: when this policy mentions "Company," "we," "us," or "our," it refers to the individual developer behind Chotty, based in Barcelona, Spain (EU).
  • Device: any internet-connected device such as a phone or tablet used to access the App.
  • Personal Data: any information that directly or indirectly allows for the identification of a natural person.
  • Third-Party Service: refers to OpenAI and any other providers used to deliver AI features within the App.
  • You: a person who installs and uses the Chotty App.

What Information Do We Collect?

We collect the following types of information:

  • Submitted text input: Text you explicitly submit for AI processing (e.g., to get a Quick Answer, translation, or writing improvement). This text is sent to OpenAI's API. We do not collect or transmit general keystrokes, passwords, or sensitive fields.
  • Email address: Your email address, if you contact us directly or register for updates.
  • Device & usage data: Basic technical data such as iOS version, App version, and anonymized usage patterns for diagnostic purposes.
  • Interaction logs: Server-side logs of AI interactions, retained to improve the App and detect abuse.

Important: The App requires Full Access keyboard permission to send data to our servers. We only transmit text you explicitly submit — we do not monitor or record everything you type.

Full Access Keyboard Permission

Apple requires iOS keyboard extensions to request "Full Access" permission in order to communicate with external servers. Chotty requests this permission solely to enable AI-powered features. We do not log, store, or transmit your general keyboard input, passwords, credit card numbers, or any data from sensitive text fields.

How Do We Use the Information We Collect?

Information we collect may be used to:

  • Provide AI-powered keyboard features via OpenAI's API
  • Improve and debug the App based on usage patterns
  • Respond to customer service inquiries
  • Detect and prevent abuse or unauthorized use
  • Send occasional product updates (only if you have opted in)

How Do We Use Your Email Address?

If you provide your email address, we may use it to respond to your support requests or send product updates. You can opt out at any time by contacting us. We do not sell your email address or use it for advertising targeting.

Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party service provider to deliver core App functionality:

  • OpenAI, LLC (USA) — processes text you submit for AI features. OpenAI does not use API data to train their models by default. Data transfer to the USA is governed by Standard Contractual Clauses (SCC) under GDPR Article 46. See openai.com/policies for details.

We do not share your data with advertisers, analytics networks, or marketing partners.

We may disclose personal information to law enforcement or government authorities if required by law or to protect the rights and safety of users or third parties.

How Long Do We Keep Your Information?

Interaction logs are retained for a maximum of 5 days and then automatically deleted. Email addresses are kept only as long as needed to fulfill the purpose for which they were collected. You may request deletion of your data at any time by contacting us.

How Do We Protect Your Information?

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal data against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. All data transmitted between the App and our servers uses encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS). However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

International Data Transfers

Chotty is based in Spain (EU). When you use AI features, your submitted text is processed by OpenAI in the USA. This transfer is governed by Standard Contractual Clauses as required under GDPR. We do not transfer data to countries without adequate data protection frameworks without appropriate safeguards.

Your Rights Under GDPR

As a resident of the European Economic Area (EEA), you have the following rights:

  • Right to access the personal data we hold about you
  • Right to correct inaccurate or incomplete data
  • Right to erasure ("right to be forgotten")
  • Right to restrict or object to processing
  • Right to data portability
  • Right to lodge a complaint with the Spanish Data Protection Authority (AEPD) at aepd.es

Legal Basis for Processing (GDPR Art. 6)

  • Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)): granted when you enable Full Access and use AI features
  • Legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f)): operating, maintaining, and improving the App

Can I Update or Correct My Information?

Yes. You can contact us at any time to request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data. We will respond within 30 days. Note that some residual data may exist in backups for a limited period after deletion.

Sale of Business

In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of all or substantially all assets of the App, your personal information may be transferred to the acquiring party, provided they agree to adhere to the terms of this Privacy Policy.

Children's Privacy

The App is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes via the App or App Store page before they take effect. Continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy. If you do not agree, you may stop using the App.

Governing Law

This Privacy Policy is governed by the laws of Spain and the European Union, without regard to conflict of law provisions. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Barcelona, Spain.
